More than 97% of trainees in Suffolk will get a place at one of their chosen secondary schools, the county council has confirmed.As places for 2018/2019 were released on "National Deal Day ", the authority said it had gotten 7,447 applications-- the greatest ever number, and up 276 on in 2015. Overall, 91.61% of candidates got deals for their first preference and 97.23% had a deal for one of their leading three chosen schools.

Gordon Jones, Suffolk County Council's member for education, said: "It is very positive to see that we have been able to offer a favored school to the majority of applicants this year.

"Beginning secondary school is an important minute for any child, so the more we can do to make the shift right for the student, the better."

However, the news was identified "frustrating" by advocates who say the council's proposition to cut home-to-school transport implies this choice could be eliminated. An assessment on the proposal to supply complimentary transport just to a child's nearest school instead of any in their catchment location closed on Wednesday with 3,500 actions.

Amongst those whose kid was celebrating their school deal was Fiona Macauley, who has been waring the transport changes.
