C17 Transportation Airplane Removing from RAF Brize Norton

A Royal Air Force 99 Squadron C17 aircraft removing from RAF Brize Norton providing air transport support to France for the Central African Republic (AUTOMOBILE).< The C17 is capable of fast, tactical delivery of troops and all types of cargo to primary operating bases anywhere in the world, or directly to more short-term forward operating bases owing to its short field ability. The design of the aircraft enables it to perform high-angle, high techniques at relatively slow speeds, hence enabling it to operate into small, austere airfields onto runways as brief as 3,500 feet long and just 90 feet broad. < The aircraft can operate into and out of problematic sites such as those surrounded by inhospitable surface or made challenging by adverse weather. The fully-integrated, electronic flight-deck and the sophisticated cargo-handling systems allow a fundamental crew of only 2 pilots and one air loadmaster to run the airplane. << br > On the ground, the airplane can be turned in a really little radius and its 4 Pratt & & Whitney engines are completely reversible, providing it the ability to manoeuvre into and from restricted parking or freight-offload locations at undeveloped strips. < This allows the C-17 to provide freight to little airfields with limited parking space in a much shorter time, so increasing throughput where time on the ground is kept to a minimum. The C-17 can carry 45,360 kgs of freight over 4,500 nautical miles whilst flying at heights in excess of 30,000 feet.
