Brooklyn Taxidermy in Brooklyn, New York

Located on an unassuming industrial block in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, there’s no sign of this taxidermy studio to be seen from the street. Unless you count the people carrying deer, foxes, birds, butterflies, and other wildlife (domestic pets, too) in and out of the building.
Yet this overlooked art studio is keeping dying art of taxidermy is alive and well.
Brooklyn Taxidermy holds an ethically sourced stance on taxidermy art, using mostly butcher remains and other ethical sources to create works. Many of the specimens are sold or rented to local bars, restaurants, film sets, or storefronts. But personal collectors often buy pieces or take taxidermy classes here too, including John Waters and Neil Patrick Harris.
The studio owner is a wholesaler for the Evolution Nature Store in New York City and Paxton Gate in San Francisco and Portland, and previously worked in taxidermy and fabrication at the American Museum of Natural History in Manhattan before veering off on her own. She was a taxidermy teacher at the now-defunct Morbid Anatomy Museum, and continues teaching taxidermy workshops every weekend out of this offbeat art space.
