EU court guidelines Uber a transport service

Uber has been considered a 'transportation service' by the European Court of Justice and not, as it previously argued, a digital service-- a relocation that might have big ramifications for the method the business operates. The ride hailing company has previously argued it merely offers a digital service to link passengers and motorists and so is not, in the classical sense, a transportation business. However EU judges disagreed, ruling that Uber's"main part is a transport service ". - New LEVC TX London Taxi review The case came to court following an obstacle from the Barcelona-based Elite Taxi organisation, and could have considerable ramifications for the way Uber operates in other European countries. An Uber spokesperson rejected the judgment would affect its business, however, mentioning that:

"This ruling will not alter things in a lot of EU nations where we already operate under transportation law ". Responding the judgment, GMB union basic secretary, Tim Roache, said:"GMB invites this decision

, which confirms that Uber is, as we have actually constantly said, a transportation business."Judges from the European Court of Justice also kept in mind that "Uber exercises decisive impact over the conditions under which the motorists provide their service ", echoing a previous judgment by the Central London Employment Tribunal, which decreed the company's motorists should be classified as workers.Earlier in the year, Transport for London ruled the business"not fit and appropriate"to hold a personal hire operator licence and stated it would not restore Uber's licence to run in the capital, though Uber is appealing this decision.
