Mayor raises regional roads concerns with Transportation NI

The Mayor of Mid and East Antrim has raised a variety of local roads problems with Transport NI at a current conference, consisting of pits, winter gritting services, street lighting, yard cutting and basic roadway maintenance.Cllr.

Paul Reid said the conference was "exceptionally useful" and an excellent opportunity to talk about a broad variety of concerns affecting those who live, work and visit Mid and East Antrim.

"The present political circumstance at Stormont has had an influence on the shipment of public services in Northern Ireland, execution of essential policies and legislation, and financial considerations," Cllr. Reid said.He added: "The Northern Ireland Budgetary Outlook set out plain propositions for the future from the departments.

"All identified cuts over the next number of years in order to satisfy the monetary position.

"It was important that we as a council took speedy action to resolve this situation and make sure appropriate provision for our citizens."

Cllr. Reid included: "During our recent meeting with Transportation NI staff, we discussed at length the urgent requirement for pits to be addressed and sought guarantees from the department relating to yard cutting, gully emptying, street lighting and gritting.

"I likewise raised the frustrations of citizens around the A8 Larne Roadway and welcome the measures planned by the department to guarantee, as far as possible, that it remains available throughout extreme weather condition."

Cllr. Reid stated the council, "as one of Northern Ireland's leading local authorities" will continue to play a crucial role in devolved government and work closely with partner firms, including the Department for Infrastructure, "for the excellent of all our residents".

"My thanks to those officials for their time and for taking the issues of citizens on board, and I also pay tribute to their staff who are currently out in frequently treacherous conditions to keep our road network available," Cllr. Reid added.
