Tributes to popular Anstey councillor John Sutherington who died after long battle with illness

A popular councillor has died after a 5 year battle with a rare bone marrow disease.John Sutherington

died on Saturday morning.Tributes have been

paid to the councillor who represented his home town of Anstey on Charnwood District Council for almost 20 years.He was the sole Liberal Democrat on the council.The 69-year-old

was diagnosed with extreme aplastic anaemia in 2013 and went through a bone marrow transplant.Despite his health problem and his ongoing extreme medical treatment he continued to serve Anstey, where he had

lived given that 1949, and was going to council conferences till the last few weeks of his life.Tribute paid Conservative borough council leader Jonathan Morgan stated:”This is really unfortunate news and our ideas are with John’s household and pals at this time.”John was

a popular councillor and cared considerably about the neighborhood and residents he served.”He was also an excellent pal to numerous members on Charnwood Borough Council and he will be sorely missed.” We know he has actually battled health concerns over recent years and it is testament to his character that he participated in complete council just a few weeks ago to ensure residents in his ward were represented.”The councillor’s newest committee subscription included the overview examination group and the licensing committee.Councillor Sutherington, understood passionately as ‘Sutty’, was an eager sportsman.He was chairman of Anstey and Glenfield Cricket Club and he belonged to Leicestershire County Cricket Club.He supported Leicester City Football Club and belonged to Anstey Nomads FC, of which his grandpas were founder members in 1947.
